As part of
the forth annual Philadelphia Juneteenth celebration the whole of 52nd Street
in West Philadelphia has been officially
renamed and rededicated to Muhammad Ali. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenny
Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, Councilman David Oh, Congressman Dwight Evens,
Minister Rodney Muhammad and representatives from the nation of Islam and
Muhammad Ali’s daughter and grandson participated in the street renaming
ceremony.
The
renaming initiative took over a year to complete. It was spearheaded by Brother
Faruq and Brother Samir friends of the former champion who enlisted the help of
Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell to initiate the needed legislative actions and
garner support from her colleagues in city council to make it happen.
The 2019 Juneteenth Parade and
Festival was scheduled to be held on 52nd and the street renaming
was included in the Juneteenth itinerary and schedule.
Juneteenth
is the oldest African-American celebration in the nation dating back to June 19th
1865 when enslaved Blacks were informed the War Between the States had ended
and they were free. Union Army Major Gordan Granger and his troops landed in Galveston Texas
following General Robert E. Lee surrender on April 9, 1865. The war was over but
the enslaved Africans in Texas
were unaware of the war’s end or their freedom from bondage! Major Granger and
his troops informed both the enslaved Blacks and the recalcitrant whites the
war was over, that hostilities were to cease and all enslaved persons were
free.
The jubilation at the news was
widespread throughout the region and many feel this was the first event Blacks
had real reason to celebrate in this country. In many places June 19th became a
traditional day of celebration. Over the years more and more African-Americans
have pushed for June19 and Juneteenth as it was called to become a local, state
or national holiday, especially as more realize that Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation did not
liberate enslaved people in the Confederacy because neither Lincoln nor his Emancipation
Proclamation had the jurisdiction or authority to do so.
Over the years Juneteenth
recognition and celebration has waxed and waned but is now experiencing a resurgence
of interest and participation. Texas became the first
state to make Juneteenth a state holiday in 1980 due to the efforts of a Black
state legislator named Al Edwards.
In Philadelphia the Juneteenth parade started
three years ago under the direction of Kenny Gamble, Ali Salahuddin, community activists
like Michael Coard, civic leaders and key local, state and national elected
officials. The parade has grown each succeeding year, this year 1,800
participants have registered and over 10,000 attendees were expected.
Recently Juneteenth was recognized
by the Pennsylvania
legislature and Governor Tom Wolf as a state holiday. Ron Brown the
Mid-Atlantic representative of the National Juneteenth Organization was
instrumental in getting Juneteenth recognized as a holiday in Pennsylvania. “It’s a legal holiday but
people don’t get paid for being off. The next thing is to make sure people can
get paid, that’s the next step. That was all part of the agreement that was
made, that we will do this incrementally then move so like for Martin Luther
King Jr.’s holiday people get paid for being off. We’re going back to the table
in about two years to make sure it’s a full holiday.”
Saturday’s weather was beautiful.
Juneteenth 2019 was a wholesome intergenerational family event. The energy and
excitement were so positive attendees got an even greater appreciation of the
meaning of Juneteenth and as an added plus, 52nd Street was renamed Muhammad Ali Way.

a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or
noble qualities.
I recently finished reading a book
entitled Black God, An Introduction To
The World’s Religions and Their Black Gods by Dr. Supreme Understanding
(not his government name). Prior to
reading that book I read two of his other books, When the World Was Black Volumes One and Two, back to back. Dr.
Supreme Understanding presents a unique perspective on world history, religion
and reveals the decisive roles aboriginal Black people played in the long and storied
history of humanity.
His work is well researched,
annotated, and documented for you skeptics. Most of the information contained in his books
has been covered up, obfuscated or suppressed. He has done extensive research
and gives credit to Black scholars like Runoko Rashidi, Ivan Van Sertima,
Cheikh Anta Diop, Drusilla Dunjee Houston, several reputable European sources
as well as the Five Per Cent Nation of Gods and Earths of which he is a member.

In Black God the author reveals many of the gods of antiquity were
real people who made such a profound impact on the people they interacted with,
they were viewed as heroes and gods and worshipped by subsequent generations.
He categorizes them into several specific types: leaders, ancestors, traveling
teachers, traders and merchants, warriors, healers and saviors. He provides historic
examples all over the world and surprise, surprise, most of them were Black
even in Europe!
Each culture or society has its own
definition of hero and heroine. Each society has its own characterization of what
constitutes heroism and greatness. If you examine a group’s heroes and heroines
you can discern much about them, you can see what they really value and esteem
regardless of what they may claim to be about or profess in their creeds and
historiography.
In the West heroes are usually
warriors, invaders and colonizers. In the US, people like George Washington a
soldier, a land speculator, slaver and murderer, Thomas Jefferson a pedophile
and usurper and Andrew Jackson an enslaver and murderer are deemed great men, called
heroes and given accolades and honors. Very rarely in America are
philosophers, mystics and sages held up for adulation, praise and emulation.
But in other areas of the world, in
indigenous African cultures like ancient Kemet (KMT) for example Imhotep is
considered a hero, god-like even, in Asia Siddharta Gautama called the Buddha
or Enlightened One is viewed in awe and even worshipped and in Meso-America
Ekchuah was worshipped as a god.
Many indigenous clans, tribes and
nations hold their founders and ancestors in high esteem. In Africa
righteous ancestors and heroes are remembered, spoken of often to keep their
memories alive. Their deeds are recalled so they serve as role models and
exemplars of the group’s desired values, character and behavior.
Indigenous traditional African cultures have a
spiritual grasp of life, meaning to them life/energy/consciousness extends
beyond physical death. To them the
essential energy the Ashe, Jok, Nomo etc. pervades all creation and we can use
it for our benefit. Ancestors are said to continue to play an active role in
the community’s well being so they are remembered, propitiated and venerated.

Europeans have no such views or
beliefs. Unfortunately we have also
allowed our adversaries and enemies to determine who is a hero, what type of
behavior is promoted and put forth to be emulated. The “reality shows” that
depict and promote ratchet behavior, selfishness, conflict, personal and group
irresponsibility, crass materialism and maladaptive responses to living in this
society are having a deleterious effect on our psyches and behaviors. We are
internalizing the values promoted in these programs and we see the negative
impact all around us.
The solution is to create, maintain
and honor our own heroes. We are the ones responsible for perpetuating our
ancient values: Ubuntu (I Am because we are, we are because I am), Ma’at
(Divine Order, Harmony, Balance, Truth, Justice, Righteousness and Reciprocity
[mutual aid, collective work and responsibility]). It is our duty to live and
exemplify these values and honor those who remain true to them and praise them
as heroes then pass our them to the next generation and reward ourselves for
keeping their traditions!
We are the heroes and sheroes we
have been waiting for, it’s time to take our rightful place and keep our
ancestral legacy alive!

US farmers already hard hit by devastating floods and storms are
also reeling from Trump’s ill advised trade war against China. A trade
war is one thing, but trade wars coupled with the adverse weather conditions
have put US farmers in an untenable position. “Record floods have
devastated a wide swath of the Farm Belt across
Iowa,
Nebraska,
South Dakota and several other states. Early
estimates of lost crops and livestock are approaching $1 billion in
Nebraska alone. With
more flooding expected, damages are expected to climb much higher for the
region. As river levels rose, spilling over levees and swallowing up townships,
farmers watched helplessly as the waters consumed not only their fields, but
their stockpiles of grain, the one thing that can stand between them and
financial ruin.”

The massive flooding
has put US farmers in financial jeopardy with many facing ruin and bankruptcy.
“Federal data shows bankruptcies in major farm states last year rose to
the highest level in at least 10 years. According to the 7th Circuit Court of
Appeals in the Midwest Illinois,
Indiana
and
Wisconsin
saw twice as many farmers declared bankruptcy in 2018 compared to those that
did during 2008. In the 8th Circuit from
North Dakota
to
Arkansas,
bankruptcies were up 96 percent. In the 10th Circuit including Kansas Colorado
and
Oklahoma,
they rose 59 percent. Last year, farm debt rose to $409 billion, with the
average size of loans in the 4th quarter at $74,190, the highest 4th quarter
level in history. However, for perspective, Chapter 12 bankruptcy
filings when looking at nationwide numbers are still below the highs of
2010. ”

To add insult to
injury, Trump’s trade wars and the tariff tit for tats with China are
exacerbating the plight of US farmers. China is one of the US’s major trading partners especially
foodstuffs. China imports more US agricultural
products than it exports to the U.S. China is the number one importer of US
soybeans, feed, animal hides and alfalfa, number two in hay, number three in
dairy and poultry, number four in processed food, pork and beef and number five
in wheat. The US exports 17%
of its goods to China; only Canada 15% and Mexico 14% come close. So you can
see how a prolonged trade war with China would be devastating to US farmers!
From an economic
perspective, Trump’s trade war is not having the desired effect. Trump always
talks about the trade imbalance or a trade deficit between the US and China;
but in the case of agriculture the deficit is in the US’s favor! Trump’s policies are
putting this advantage in jeopardy because China is going elsewhere for their
agricultural needs.

While Trump’s
hard core supporters cheer his threats of tariffs and trade wars as part of his
Make America Great Again meme, sane economists and mature people know tariffs
and trade wars have unintended consequences. Trump has a lot of support in the
Mid-West amongst farmers. These farmers are hard pressed to keep a stiff upper
lip and continue to cheer his policies as they watch their bills and debt pile
higher while their revenues shrink and shrivel. This could translate in
defections at the polls by his base of bankrupt farmers, which is why Trump is
offering them more federal relief. In effect Trump is giving money we don’t
have and cannot afford to farmers to soften their suffering caused by his
negotiation and policy missteps. Under Trump and his tax cuts the federal
deficit has sky-rocketed. “Recent data from the Treasury Department shows the U.S. is already
running a deficit of $691 billion. That's already higher than all but five
full-year deficits in U.S.
history, according to an analysis by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, a

proposed large spending hikes in his budget outlines. Those hikes in outlays
and cuts to revenue were responsible for 60 percent of this year's budget

Tariffs are used
to protect a nation’s businesses and industry against foreign competition.
Unfortunately for us Trump fails to realize the US
is no longer a manufacturing giant; by deliberate design US industries
and manufacturing jobs have been shipped overseas to increase profits of the
corporations! Contrary to Trump’s
bombastic rhetoric, they are not repatriating to the US.

In reality
Trump’s tariffs are a malicious tax on consumers who pay the increased costs of

We are
continuously inundated with propaganda, lies and disinformation couched in
ideological terms designed to trigger psychological responses to hot button
issues to create a belief system, worldview and outlook the manipulators want
us to internalize. This massive amount of propaganda, disinformation and
non-reality comes at us from all directions the Internet, live streaming,
electronic and print media and by even more nefarious means. It is a form of
mind control. It is designed to influence what we believe, buy and how we
behave.
We don’t
like to think we are being brainwashed and programmed but we are, big time. It
is so thorough we are totally unaware of what and how it is being done to us.
Mind control is much more sophisticated and wicked than what Vance Packard
wrote about in his book Hidden Persuaders in 1957. The ruling class and their
technocrats are assiduously developing newer technologies that influence and

subtlety and stealth of their technology is uncanny, so much so we think our

programming technology is the Lilly Wave. “Let’s begin with the Lilly
wave (named after Dr. John C. Lilly, who worked at the US National

with Jeff Rense, Dr. Patrick Flanagan reveals how he was
friends with Lilly. According to Flanagan, Lilly ‘developed technologies
for bypassing the mechanism of the human brain that resist programming’. By
chance, Lilly later discovered that there were signals coming in from the power
grid (with embedded ultrasonic wave forms and shapes) using his own invention,
